Book of the Week
The Sun Also Rises - Ernest HemingwayThe Sun Also Rises is the first major novel by Ernest Hemingway. Published in 1926, the plot centers on a group of expatriate  Americans and Britons in continental Europe during the 1920s. It follows the group from Paris to the running of the bulls in Pamplona. The book’s title, selected by Hemingway (at the recommendation of his publisher) is taken from Ecclesiastes  1:5: « The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. » It is often described as Hemingway’s best novel.
Movie of the Week
Pans LabyrinthPan’s Labyrinth (Spanish: El laberinto del fauno, « The Faun’s Labyrinth ») is a 2006 Spanish-language fantasy film, written and directed by Mexican film-maker Guillermo del Toro. Pan’s Labyrinth takes place in Spain, in May and June, 1944, five years after the Spanish Civil War, during the early Franquist period. The narrative of the film interweaves this real world with a fantasy world centered around an overgrown abandoned labyrinth and a mysterious faun creature, with which the main character Ofelia interacts. The film employs make-up, animatronics and CGI effects to create its creatures.
Album of the Week
$O$ - Die Antwoord$O$ is the debut album by South African rap-rave  group, Die Antwoord. The album was initially a widely-circulated internet-only release, and made available to stream for free on the band’s website prior to Interscope Records signing the band. Following the group’s signing to Interscope in the US, it was announced that $O$ would be rereleased in physical format with a different tracklisting. Diplo produced one of the new tracks on the re-release, Evil Boy, for which a promotional video was made available on 6 October 2010. In an interview with Xeni Jardin, Ninja mentioned that he considered the album to be the first in a five-album plan.
